MoSHBODS changed the ranking of a baker’s dozen teams this week after which it had left Western Bulldogs in 1st, but moved Hawthorn into 2nd, up by three places, and left Gold Coast in 3rd.

Other big movers were Adelaide up three into 4th, Brisbane Lions down three into 5th, and Geelong down three into 7th.

MARS moved only nine teams and arrived at the same Top 3 as MoSHBODS.

MoSHBODS RATINGS

Overall, MoSHBODS now has only nine teams rated as above average.

On the Component Ratings, on offence we find MoSHBODS with a Top 3 of Dogs, Hawks, and Cats, while on defence it has a Top 3 of Pies, Dogs, and Crows. Twelve teams are rated as above average on offence, but only eight on defence.

Offensive ratings currently span a range of 1.21 standard deviations and defensive ratings a range of 0.82 standard deviations. The standard deviation of offensive ratings across all teams is 0.35 and that for defensive ratings 0.26. Teams therefore remain more differentiated by their offensive abilities than their defensive abilities,

The correlation between the teams’ MoSHBODS offensive and defensive Ratings now stands at +0.752, which is up on last week.

MARS RATINGS

MARS currently has 10 teams rated better-than-average, after which there is a small gap to Melbourne’s 998.7 and then a larger gap to St Kilda’s 992.6.

The gap from 1st to 2nd is 7.6 Rating Points, from 1st to 4th is 14.3 Rating Points, and from 1st to 10th is 25.8 Rating Points. All of those gaps have widened this week, thanks largely to the significant Rating Points gain by the Western Bulldogs this week after defeating GWS by an unexpectedly large 81 points.

Across all 18 teams, the Ratings span 66.3 Rating Points, the mean is 1,000 Rating Points, and the standard deviation is 18.4 Rating Points.

COMPARISON OF MOSHBODS AND MARS

The correlation between MoSHBODS’ Combined Ratings and MARS’ Ratings stands at +0.983 and, roughly speaking, each team’s Combined MoSHBODS Rating is about 0.03 times its MARS Rating less 30.
