MoSHBODS changed the ranking of a dozen teams this week after which it had Western Bulldogs in 1st, Brisbane Lions in 2nd, and Gold Coast in 3rd, all of them having a higher offensive than defensive rating and the Gold Coast being only one of two teams rising by more than a single place. Geelong was the big faller, dropping three places into 4th.

MARS also moved a dozen teams and arrived at a Top 3 of Dogs, Lions, and Hawks. The Cats also suffered the largest decline on this System, dropping four places into 5th.

MoSHBODS RATINGS

Overall, MoSHBODS now has 11 teams rated as above average.

On the Component Ratings, on offence we find MoSHBODS with a Top 3 of Dogs, Lions, and Cats, while on defence it has a Top 3 of Pies, Suns, and Crows. Eleven teams are rated as above average on offence, but only eight on defence.

Offensive ratings currently span a range of 1.23 standard deviations and defensive ratings a range of 0.86 standard deviations. The standard deviation of offensive ratings across all teams is 0.33 and that for defensive ratings 0.24. Teams therefore are more differentiated by their offensive abilities than their defensive abilities,

The correlation between the teams’ MoSHBODS offensive and defensive Ratings now stands at +0.648, which is quite low.

MARS RATINGS

MARS currently has 10 teams rated better-than-average, after which there is a small gap to Melbourne’s 998.5 and then a larger gap to St Kilda’s 992.7.

The gap from 1st to 2nd is 4.2 Rating Points, from 1st to 4th is 5.7 Rating Points, and from 1st to 10th is 19.7 Rating Points.

Across all 18 teams, the Ratings span 57.5 Rating Points, the mean is 1,000 Rating Points, and the standard deviation is 17.2 Rating Points.



COMPARISON OF MOSHBODS AND MARS

The correlation between MoSHBODS’ Combined Ratings and MARS’ Ratings stands at +0.986 and, roughly speaking, each team’s Combined MoSHBODS Rating is about 0.03 times its MARS Rating less 30.

MoSHBODS and MARS agree about the ranking of eight teams and differ by no more than two spots about nine more. That just leaves one team, GWS, which MoSHBODS ranks 10th and MARS 6th,
