Below is the latest Ranking on Dashboard Metrics table, which shows that the teams currently in the Top 10 motly deserve to be there based on the metrics shown here, with the possible exception of Melbourne who might be replaced by Port Adelaide.

The metrics currently most rank correlated with ladder position are:

  • MoS Win Production Function: +0.93

  • Percent of Quarters Won: +0.89

  • Own Points per Game: +0.87

  • Own Goals per Game: +0.82

  • Own Scoring Shots per Game: +0.81

  • Opponent Scoring Shots per Game: +0.77

  • Opponent Points per Game: +0.72

  • Opponent Goals per Game: +0.7

Those least rank correlated with ladder position are:

  • Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion: +0.34

  • Own Scoring Shot Conversion: +0.44

(Note that Sydney, remarkably, is in the Top 3 on every metric)

Next, here’s the latest Team Dashboard, which shows, among other things, that:

  • Geelong have yet to lose a Q4

  • St Kilda have yet to win a Q3

  • West Coast have yet to win a Q1 or a Q4

  • Port Adelaide and Sydney are the only teams to have outscored their opponents in all four quarters

  • GWS and Richmond are the only teams to have been outscored by their opponents in all four quarters

  • Collingwood, GWS, Port Adelaide, and Richmond apart, very few teams have similar percentages across all four quarters

  • Carlton have scored 37% of their points in Q1s and 57% of their points in 1st halfs. But, they’ve conceded 65% of their points in 2nd halfs, including 36% in Q4s.
