Below is the latest Ranking on Dashboard Metrics table, which shows that Port Adelaide and St Kilda are unlucky to not be in the Top 10, with Melbourne and Western Bulldogs perhaps undeservedly taking their places.

The metrics currently most rank correlated with ladder position are:

  • Percent of Quarters Won: +0.91

  • MoS Win Production Function: +0.89

  • Own Points per Game: +0.85

  • Own Goals per Game: +0.83

  • Own Scoring Shots per Game: +0.79

  • Opponent Scoring Shots per Game: +0.75

  • Opponent Points per Game: +0.74

  • Opponent Goals per Game: +0.71

Those least rank correlated with ladder position are:

  • Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion: +0.42

  • Own Scoring Shot Conversion: +0.43

(Note that Sydney is now in the Top 4 on every metric)

Next, here’s the latest Team Dashboard, which shows, among other things, that:

  • West Coast have yet to win a Q1 or a Q4

  • Port Adelaide and Sydney remain the only teams to have outscored their opponents in all four quarters

  • GWS, Richmond, and West Coast are the only teams to have been outscored by their opponents in all four quarters

  • GWS, Port Adelaide, Richmond and Sydney apart, all teams have at least a 35 percentage point range in their percentages across all four quarters

  • Carlton have scored 33% of their points in Q1s. They’ve also conceded 63% of their points in 2nd halfs, including 35% in Q4s.

  • Richmond have scored 35% of their points in Q2s, and only 20% in each of Q1s and Q4s

  • West Coast have scored 40% of their points in Q3s, but only 16% in each of Q1s and Q4s

  • Collingwood have scored 32% of their points in Q4s

  • Essendon have scored 33% of their points in Q4s
