SUPER KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT #1
The first fantasy tournament here will be a super knockout tournament, which will function as follows:
All 1,640 teams from history (eg Collingwood 1964, Richmond 2012 etc) will entered in a knockout competition
As explained on the How It Works page, each team’s stength will be based on their MoSHBODS Rating
In particular, for this competition, each team’s strength for the next game will be chosen at random from all their post-game combined MoSHBODS Combined Ratings from Round 5 of their season onwards. So, for example, the Sydney 2012 team might play at their end of Round 12 rating in the first round and, if they go through, their end of Round 7 rating in the second round
Choosing the rating at random injects some variability into each team’s ratings from round to round and favours teams that were consistently rated highly over teams with similar mean ratings but higher variability
128 teams will be seeded in Round 1 of the competition. The rating chosen for teams’ first game will be used to decide which get seeded with the 128 highest-rated teams receiving the bye
The format is knockout and draws will be resolved through periods of extra time
One round will be played each day across 11 days, and summary information will be recorded in ths blog. Score progression MP4s will be provided for some key games as will a summary of interesting or important results
The tournament will start of the Monday after the AFLW Grand Final.
