MatterOfStats 2015 : Team Dashboard for Round 4

Fremantle now heads the competition ladder as the only undefeated team, but sports a percentage of only 135, which is more in keeping with those teams below it on 3 and 1 records.

Indeed, its Scoring Shot data, when put into MoS' Win Production Function, suggests that a 3 and 1 record is most consistent with that data. In contrast, the Hawks' Scoring Shot data suggests that they should have a better win-loss record.

The Dockers' final margins of victory so far this season have been by 7, 44, 30 and 14 points, with their overall Quarter 1 and 2 performances substantially overshadowing their Quarter 3 and 4 performances. They've won three of four Q1s and all four Q2s, outscoring their opponents by almost 3:1 in Q1s and almost 2:1 in Q2s. In comparison they've won just a single Q3 and just 2 of 4 Q4s while being outscored, in aggregate, in both these quarters. As such, they've the 2nd-best Q1 results and the best Q2 results, but only the 13th-best Q3 and 12-best Q4 results.

It is, of course, very early days in the season, so statistics like these can be disproportionately affected by a game or two, but it's an interesting early indication of something to watch.

Other teams with a first-half bias in their performances so far are Adelaide, Essendon, Melbourne and Port Adelaide, while those with a second-half bias are Collingwood, GWS, Hawthorn, Sydney and West Coast. The Bulldogs are the team with the most-notably superior Q1 and Q3 performances, while Richmond has distinctively better Q2 and Q4 performances.
