MatterOfStats 2016 : Team Dashboard for Round 8

All of the top 10 teams on the competition ladder now sport percentages greater than 100, and all but Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs have averaged more than 100 points per game.

Meantime six of the seven teams filling the bottom spots on the ladder have themselves conceded, on average, at least 100 points a game with Essendon, the lone exception, only falling five points short of joining the list.

MoS' Win Production Function now has it that, based on the teams' scoring statistics:

  • The Roos have won 2.3 games more than would be expected given their statistics
  • Hawthorn have won 1.7 games more
  • Carlton have won 1.4 games more
  • Gold Coast have won 1.0 games more
  • Fremantle have won 1.5 games fewer
  • West Coast have won 1.1 games fewer
  • Adelaide have won 0.9 games fewer
  • GWS, Melbourne and Sydney have each won 0.7 games fewer

A competition ordered by expected number of wins would look like this:

  1. Geelong

  5. West Coast
  6. Kangaroos
  7. Adelaide
