MatterOfStats 2018 : Team Dashboard for Round 22

The latest versions of the Team Dashboard and the Team Dashboard Metrics Rankings appear below.

Amongst the current Top 8, we have:

  • One team (Sydney) that's in the bottom half in terms of Scoring Shot generation
  • One team (Sydney again) that's in the bottom half in terms of Scoring Shot concession
  • Two teams (Richmond and GWS) that are in the bottom half in terms of Scoring Shot conversion
  • Four teams (Richmond, West Coast, Collingwood, and Melbourne) that are in the bottom half in terms of Opponent Scoring Shot conversion

Given that, it's not altogether surprising that the ordering of the teams based on the MoS Win Production Function is somewhat different from the competition ladder ordering, although both have the same teams in their respective Top 8s, but in different orders.

In terms of Expected Wins relative to Actual Wins, we have:

  • Western Bulldogs +2.6
  • Fremantle +2.5
  • Gold Coast and Richmond +1.1
  • Sydney +1.0
  • Adelaide and West Coast +0.9
  • Brisbane Lions -3.3
  • Geelong -3.0
  • Melbourne -2.6
  • North Melbourne -1.1
  • Carlton -0.9

If we compare the ordering of the teams based on Expected Wins versus their competition ladder positions, we have:

  • Geelong and Melbourne 5 places higher
  • Brisbane Lions 2 places higher
  • Collingwood, Sydney, and West Coast 3 places lower
  • Western Bulldogs 2 places lower
  • GWS 1 place lower

Every other team is ranked identically based on Expected Wins and the competition ladder.
